“As part of our mission to inspire great health, we’ve made a commitment to our patients, community, employees and providers that our hospital and health system will make quality care a top priority,” said Tim Thornell, CRMC’s chief executive officer and president. “Being recognized as a top 100 hospital for general surgery and coronary intervention, in addition to being named a Healthgrades top 250 hospital for the past two years, is validation of just how focused our employees and providers are on providing the highest level of care to our patients and community, and I want to thank them and congratulate them for these exceptional achievements.”

Patients treated at hospitals receiving “America’s 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery” award have, on average, a 28.6 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication or dying while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, according to Healthgrades.

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated the performance of nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing clinical outcomes for 32 procedures and conditions. Data evaluated was from 2017-2019 and included a review of approximately 45 million Medicare patient claims records.

Healthgrades evaluates hospital quality for conditions and procedures based solely on clinical outcomes. No hospital can opt in or out of the analysis, and no hospital pays to be measured.

“As patients learn to navigate their health in light of COVID-19, it has never been more important for people to research and identify top-performing hospitals, and for hospitals to focus on continuous quality improvement so that quality of care information is transparent and easily accessible,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer for Healthgrades. “We applaud those hospitals who are working around the clock to keep their communities safe and are doing all that they can to deliver the highest quality care.”
