Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Drives Diabetes Awareness Day and Month for Wyomingites

November 12, 2024—Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is excited to announce World Diabetes Day on November 14 and November as Diabetes Awareness Month in Wyoming. Governor Mark Gordon signed the proclamation on October 21, 2024. This initiative underscores the crucial role of education and community involvement in tackling the diabetes health crisis in Wyoming.
With nearly 40,000 diagnosed cases and 12,000 undiagnosed, along with 33.6% of adults at risk due to pre-diabetes, Wyoming faces an urgent health challenge. The financial burden is considerable, with medical costs for diabetes patients significantly higher and totaling $311 million in 2017 alone.

Diabetes, a leading cause of death, increases the risks of severe complications like heart attack and blindness. Pediatric diabetes remains unpredictable, affecting many without a family history.
CRMC leads efforts to enhance awareness and accessibility to care, aiming to reduce diabetes’s impact statewide. By working with the governor to proclaim Wyoming’s Diabetes Awareness Day and Month, CRMC seeks to engage the community in improving prevention and management strategies.

CRMC remains committed to fostering healthier communities through informed action and collective responsibility in the ongoing fight against diabetes.
